I

I’ve been living here in Seoul, South Korea for a while now. It has been 2787 days since I climbed on the airplane bound for ICN, via JHB and DXB. I still remember clearing passport control, frantically sending everyone a last text message before I lost signal, and not knowing what awaited me in the land of morning calm.  The years since then have been much the same as anyone’s, some have been fun, others less so, some have been character building, others more relaxed. However, as someone who can fairly say to have been away from his home for a long time, the one thing that I miss more than any other, the one thing that causes more guilt, and more tears, is being away from my family. We’ve been good about it, I’ve been home 3 times, my parents have been to visit Korea 4 times, and my little brother lives and works here now. But what made these last few weeks special, was that for the first time in 2787 days, we were all on vacation at the same time. I’d like to share with you some of the images that frame a little of these last few weeks, as my family are very important to me and I’ve been very lucky to be blessed with them.

About Seoul photographer Tim Van Der Merwe

Seoul photographer Tim Van Der Merwe services Seoul and her greater area, with a primary focus on portraiture, couple and pre-wedding photography. His photographic style is inherently influenced by photo-journalism, with a love of genuine emotion and untouched, moments of humanity and expression. The aesthetics of his photographs are informed from years as a musician, a love of the ocean, an appreciation for a wabi-sabi outlook on life, and a love of strong colouring.
